At our events I am frequently approached by participants who feel they are stricken with disease and ailments, that they have tried everything, that they can’t be helped, and it’s amazing to see their eyes open up wide when I start to ask questions about what they have ‘tried’ and what they are yet to explore.
Now despite what you believe about the cause of diseases and health concerns, whether you subscribe to the impact of beliefs, I’m sure you’ll agree that generally speaking Vegetables are considered good for you, and that they have health-promoting properties. So beliefs aside, lets focus on Vegetables. More specifically lets focus on Organic Vegetables that are blended or ground-up (in a grinder!), and how these can help.
Why Organic
The concept behind eating Organic Vegetables is that commercially grown vegetables are sprayed with a cocktail of chemicals in order to prevent bugs and pests from destroying the crop, as well as to promote faster plant growth. In many cases these chemicals are less than useful to the human body, so when we eat these contaminated vegetables (non-organic) our immune systems redirects it’s energies to combating the poisonous chemical contamination. Isn’t it better to save our immune system to fight diseases/toxins in the body that we don’t intentionally introduce?
Organic Foods are also the only way to practically avoid eating GM foods (Genetically Modified). The jury is still out on what long terms health affects are caused by GM Foods, and because of our current labeling laws, GM foods do not need to be labeled as such. This means that if it doesn’t say “Certified Organic” on the label it could be a genetically modified food or made from a GM wholefood (soya bean, rice, wheat, etc).
Why Blended
Below is a quote from Dr Norman Walker who authored the book, “Fresh Vegetable and Fruit Juices”:
An entirely Raw Food regimen, without the inclusion of a sufficient quantity and variety of fresh-Raw juices is equally deficient (as a cooked food diet). The reason for this deficiency lies in the fact that a surprisingly large percentage of the atoms making up the nourishment in the Raw Foods is utilized as fuel for energy by the digestive organs in their processes of digesting and assimilating the food, which usually requires as long as 3, 4, or 5 hours after every meal. Such atoms, while furnishing some nourishment to the body, are mostly used up as fuel, leaving only the smaller percentage available for the regeneration of the cells and tissues.
However, when we drink Raw vegetable juices, the situation is entirely different, as these are digested and assimilated within 10 to 15 minutes after we drink them and they are used almost entirely in the nourishment and regeneration of the cells and tissues, glands and organs of the body. In this case the result is obvious, as the entire process of digestion and assimilation is completed with a maximum degree of speed and efficiency, and with a minimum of effort on the part of the digestive system.

Essentially speaking, a juiced vegetable enters the lower intestines faster, and because it’s already in liquid form, it can be easily absorbed by the villi (see image below) that lines our intestinal tract, resulting in you gaining more health promoting properties from the vegetable when compared to eating it normally (chewing).

The keys to Blending are:
- Blend for as little time as possible – When foods are blended oxygen mixes with the food particles. This oxidation of the particles starts to diminish the nutritional value of the food, so try to keep the oxidation to a minimum by only blending the food as long as you have to. A good tip is to blend on the slowest speed possible, ideally with a blender that is known to blend at speeds lower than 80 rpm.
- Chop up the vegetable into small pieces first - Before blending, chop up the vegetable first to reduce the time needed to blend
Why is a Green Juice good for me?
A green juice drink made from Organic Vegetables is considered by many as a silver bullet for most health concerns. If there is something wrong with your health, if you are overweight, if you have some sort of disease and if you haven’t tried the Green Juice Lifestyle for at least 10 days in a row (with your Doctor’s approval), then there is still hope!
The Green Juice is like taking a super shot of live, healthy nutrients and vitamins straight to the system, so that your body has the building blocks to start to repair and regenerate where it needs to.
People have lost up to 30 kgs in 30 days from this lifestyle, women have become more fertile, symptoms of arthritis have disappeared for many people, and some have reduced their dependency on insulin.
Lacking energy? Feel like your emotions aren’t in balance? Many people who have adopted the Green Juice Lifestyle feel amazing both inside and out.
The great thing about this lifestyle is that you are dosing yourself up on an abundance (more than a normal person ingests) of healthy nutrients and vitamins, therefore overloading your body’s organs and system with benefits, allowing your body to move into a state of repair, as opposed to being stuck in a state of combat, combating all the toxins and poisons that we take into our bodies through our ‘normal’ diets consisting of preservatives, chemicals, colours, sugars, etc.
A recipe for (Green) Success
There are no rules when it comes to what to place into your Green Drinks. Experiment and find out what works for you.
Below is a recipe that we use on a daily basis (all organic produce):
- A large handful of Fresh Kale (chopped) = Superfood
- One Avocado = Superfood
- 3 Tomatoes = Source of Lycopene (powerful antioxidant)
- 1 Lebanese Cucumber = Good for Skin
- 1/4 Cup of Linseed (Flaxseed) = Good Oils
- 1/4 Cup of Chia Seeds = Good Oils
- A bunch of Parsley (chopped) = Vit C & K, Antioxidants
- 2 Tblsp of Olive Oil = Good Oils
- 1 Lemon (minus skin) = Low Sugar Alkaline Fruit
- 2 sticks of Celery (Chopped)
- 1/2 Teasp of Himalayan Salt = Minerals
- approx 750mls of Water (preferrably Alkalised water)
Optional Extras:
- Jalapeno Chilli
- Spinach
- Coriander
- Sprouts – Alfalfa etc
FRUITS
Some people prefer to put fruits into their drinks, claiming that it tastes better – If this is you, then GO FOR IT! This lifestyle is not about perfection, it’s about improvement! Fruits have a higher sugar content to them so if you need to get your sugar cravings sorted out, then it’s much better to do this using fresh fruit, than using products with processed sugars.
Add ingredients into a blender, blending as you go. Stop blending when you are happy with consistency.
Some people like it chunky, some people like it smooth. You can filter out some of the pulp with some cheese cloth or a strainer if you prefer.
Advanced Green Drinkers – Instead of blending, use a slow grinder to turn vegetables into pulp, then add pulp to a press to extract the juice and nutrients. Costs more (up to $2000), requires more time and gives bigger health rewards!
The Storm before the Calm
Because your body stores toxins and other nasties in and around fat cells, when you stop introducing more toxins and poisons, the body takes the opportunity to deal with the nasties that are already locked away. Many people who start the Green Juice Lifestyle, feel less than perfect for the first 2 – 3 days. This is due to the body starting to detox itself, the lymphatic system working it’s magic to remove the toxins and poisons. It is a necessary part of the healing process within the body.
When you start the Green Juice Lifestyle, you may experience headaches, sweats, running nose, a feeling of tiredness and/or other undesirable feelings…and when you do, rejoice! Rejoice in the fact that your body has started to heal itself, to rid your internal environment of the toxins and poisons that are not useful. Keep pushing through this ‘storm’ and you will very quickly find the ‘calm’ by day 4 or 5, feeling amazing, feeling lighter, happier and full of abundant energy.
